I've been on the river everyday since the opener and so far it has been an ok season. I have walked out everyday with my 2 kings and either 1 or 2 silvers each day except for 2. The only gripe I have this year is that the kings are runnin small. I've been on the river my whole life and these are by far the smallest kings on average I've ever seen. I have only landed 2 over 30# and have only seen 3 others over 30# . The trade off has been the early run of bigger, more aggressive silvers which has been fun. We are seeing more and more idiots who are using braided line in here and that stuff has no business in a river like this one. Every hole in the river is going to hold fish and I get people asking me everyday why I am catchin fish and they are not. The answer to that question is location. If you read the water and think a little like a salmon, you will be just as successful. I've caught fish from Voights creek all the way to the mouth. If you are drifting corkies and yarn, only drift where the fish are and don't long line as you are only wasting your time. Shorter drifts and more casts in this river will catch you more fish off the bars and off the deep sides you can get away with the longer drifts. Eggs, spinners, plugs, and corkies and yarn have all produced for me this year so far and when the river clears up, I will put my corkies away and it will be a bait/hardware show. why not braided line? that is what i use in all rivers and have always wanted to fish the carbon but never tried. i still produce fish but not like you are. got any tips on types of line i should try in the river and what lb. test?

Because It gets stuck in the rivers and the next guy who fishes that hole with regular line gets his line cut the instent it touches the braided crap. It sucks going to set the hook and all the sudden your line is cut or when you are fighting a fish and your line gets cut. Makes people very angry. I have seen a lot of people using braided line wind up in the river due to angry anglers. Don't get me wrong, braided line has its uses, but it does not belong in our smaller rivers. I reccomend P-line and Izorline in 12, 15, or 17# for kings and 8 or 10 for silvers. I use 12 for kings and 6# for silvers. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, let me know.

I go to the Carbon but only a couple of spots and haven't seen or heard anything like you describe. I guess I just don't move around enough because I also haven't caught the fish you have. I only use mono. I have 8 lb on mine right now.

I don't fish the carbon , just noticed the comments about braided line. first off braided isn't usually left in rivers in long lengths unless they are using 10# test. the weakest point of the line is the knot where the line will break 98% of the time. only problem would be if the person was using braided for leaders. when iI use braided I use 50# test and a swivel rated at 30# and a 12 to 17# mono leader for kings and 6 to 12 # for silvers. the other thing is the newer braided lines are alot softer and less abraisive then the first generation that most people were afraid of . the newer lines get even softer with use. I was fishing a couple weeks ago on the nisqally and peple were hitting a snag ball and cussing up a storm about braided line being in the river cutting thiar line , I grabbed a halibut rod with 80# braided and tied a hook streight to the main line with a weight about 4 feet above it and casted into the snag to drag it out , when it hit the beach it was nothing more than alot of mono. good news is I ended up with 45 corkies and about 30 lead weights, but no braided in the snag. and noone got cut lines after i pulled it out. mono will burn line if stressed against yours just as easy as most people think braided will.

I have mainly been fishin in town after the first couple days and mostly in the morning or evening. There have been quite a few guys in the hole the last couple days and I have seen about 40 silvers and 8 kings come out in the same period. To the last guy who commented on braided line, the problem is that people get hung up and then cut it. I also agree that mono can be just as bad since I have seen mono cut mono on many occasions in different ways. Toni, I would strongly suggest movin around the river. If you got 20 people fishin a hole consistantly and you are not seeing many fish caught, it is time to find another hole. Read the water and think like a fish. Where would you hold if you were lookin for the path of least resistance or needed a break from the current? I went down last night only for a little over an hour and landed 3 silvers, kept 2, and released a foul hooked one. Saw a bunch of others caught as well. Don't really want to give the location of my hole up yet as it is already standing room only, but I will say that it is a short walk from the high school. If you see a guy with a red heeler, that's me. Good luck guys

I fish with powerpro line and i use mono or flourocarbon for leader and when i get snagged i usually get everything back plus more or i break at the leader .when one gets snagged in a hole usaully its not one line you get snagged on but multiple lines .Now i agree with izorline it makes great leaders because it lays flat and doesent coil like others and that makes a huge difference .The difference in feel is like walking on puncture vines with no shoes versus having shoes on with powerpro .I think its a matter of comfort in what you have confidence in.The definition of think like a fish =semi deep holes fished slow with patience and consisitent casts in the same spot over and over,OR within in 10-15 ft from shore where you see fish rise ,cast there over and over and you will get a pattern that works all over.Now the only fear i have with braided line is you have a fish on and running and somebody is in the way the line can seriously hurt some one .I HAVE YET TO SEE SOMEONE GET THROWN BECAUSE OF THE LINE THEY USE!!!! ANYWAY i agree with most of your advice.I hope to see you and the heeler out and about so i can pick your brain lol and maybe get some more knowledge as im always ready to learn.
funny where i fish theres a blue heeler who visits me pretty regular shes a curious one for sure.

My heeler looks like a fox or a coyote so if you see her, I'm nearby. I do use power pro and tuff line but only for saltwater applications and in places where there is a lot of wood or line in the water followed with a mono leader. Braided line is ok as long as it doesn't get left in the water. Get your eggs ready for when we get a foot of visibility too and get your hardware ready for when it's a couple feet-clear.

I use braided line on a couple of my poles. If you know how to fish and don't mess around its ok. I don't use braided leaders.
