I fished the Sky for Chums with my buddy Doug who as I have mentioned before is a local guide in Snohomish County. It was a “survey trip” for him which he often takes on the rivers when he doesn’t have a client which isn’t often. He tells me these trips allow him to stay up on river conditions and keep up on where the fish are holding which helps him put his clients in the right spots at the right time so as to increase catching opportunities. So for a very quick 3 hours we hit 4 spots he often catches fish at and we had not one bite. Doug concluded that the Chums were not in as thick as he had hoped. One of these spots that I am told is a popular location was on the Sky where the Wallace flows in. There were no other boats there and only a few bank fishermen on the Wallace maybe 100 yards from the Sky. Doug told me that this is a major staging area before the fish enter the Wallace to spawn. (Good info). I thought anyone thinking about fishing the Sky for Chums might like to know about current conditions from an experienced guide so I decided to post this non eventful report. For me, because I have only been on a river in a boat twice now, it was a great trip. Fishing wise (for Chum Salmon) it was poor. We saw several eagles and I took a bunch of great pics and some video. My buddy Doug told me he would be returning to the Sky in the coming days and weeks but would be targeting Steelhead. If anyone is interested in taking a trip with Doug, feel free to email me for his information. He is a great guy, loves to teach others, waits on his clients (and me) hand and foot, and will likely provide a successful catching trip. Good luck fishin and Happy Thanksgiving. NOTE: We used Flatfish wrapped with Sardine. The water conditions were great. The water was clean, not high, and had good flow. Time of day was 0930 to 1230 hrs. There were folks fishing from shore at the Sultan launch. We saw one guy catch a 10+ pound Chum while we were launching. He was casting into the body of water where the fast water meets the slower water.
