Mid-morning we packed a picnic and headed for the Conway City Park/Boat Launch. After a quick stop at the gas station and Holiday Sports we were in the water by 10:00. Initially we headed up river and fished a couple gravel bars for dolly varden but no takers. We decided to head downstream to the tide water and fish Steamboat Slough. We started fishing just short of the artists/fishing shacks and caught the first dolly almost immediately. We were trolling lightweight small elongated spoons with no weight 50-60’ behind the boat. We worked all the way down to the last fork before the salt. We had a constant pick on 14-18” dollys. Trolling up or downstream didn’t seem to make any difference. It was a great day on the water, good lunch and lots of fish (all released un harmed).

I am glad to hear the attitude of the Dollys has changed since I lived in the Puget Sound area from 91 to 97 most people I knew would throw them on the bank. They treated them like trash fish thinking they ate all the Salmon and Steelhead eggs.
