My cousin and I launched by the mouth of Davis Creek around 6:30 a.m. saturday morning. We started off fishing the mouth of Davis Creek, but it was full of bass tourney boats so once the fog lifted we went searching for weed beds. We didn't start seeing or catching fish until about 10 a.m. when I caught a 27" pike on a pike patterned floating rapala in about 6' of water. An hour or so later I hooked up with a 2 lb. largemouth fishing in the same flooded weed bed with a 5" watermelon senko rigged weedless with no weight just twitching it along the bottom. We spotted a lot of pike ranging from mid 20" - 36". Around noon my cousin nailed the largemouth pictured on a 5" watermelon jig that weighed 5 lb. 2 oz. Total we each caught 3 pike a piece that were all at the 27" mark and 1 bass each. We probably lost a total of 10 pike. All fish were caught on watermelon senkos rigged weedless with no weight fishing in 4'-7' of water. Water temperature was 55 degrees in most sloughs and flooded areas. The main channel was 49 degrees. Definitely a good day of fishing.
