Got out of the DNR campground at about 6am, we would have been out sooner but the gate does not open until then; a helpful little pointer for all you fisherman who are early risers. It did not take long to see big fish rising, unfortunately they were grass carp. We originally went after large mouths but after cathing smallmouth after smallmouth, we figured we would stick with them. Fishing rip-rap and docks with rocky soil we stayed pretty busy realing them in. Caught them using platstics. It really started to slow down after noon, so go early and carry plenty of plastics.

Brando.....What part of the river did you fish? Is DNR the Bowl and Pitcher area? I dont see many reports on the river but it is still a great smallmouth fishery. I typically fish below the sewer treatment and all the way down to seven mile. The polution problem is probably why we dont hear many fishing reports but for a fun C&R day it is a great river. Ocasionally I pick up some nice rainbows too!

I was actually in long lake but did not see that was an option. It is down by one of the dams quite a bit further than seven mile. Yeah I have been told not to eat anything, which isn't a problem for me I catch and release everything.

Fish in Long Lake are OK to eat, or so I have been told by WDFW. I have eaten them and only one of my kids has extra toes!

It's called Lake Spokane... which is why you don't find it in the system as Long Lake. If it wasn't such a pain to move it over, I would, but the river and lake reports are in different tables in the database. :/ No worries.

Brando: When you mentioned docks, large mouth and grass carp, the thought of Long Lake/Lake Spokane did cross my mind. Well, it all makes much more sense now. Thanks for the report.
