This report is for the upper Yakima by Easton exit 71. I have a friend who owns a house right on the river down from the easton ponds. I was on the river for 2 days. Day one I walked up and down about 1/4 mile stretch of the river checking currents and holes trying different lures and setups. Sun was bright, water was clear and cold. Found a nice hole in the shade of a bridge tressle and started drifting a small elkwing caddis into the pool below. After working the hole for about 15 mintues hooked into a beautiful 12-14" rainbow. Let him go but couldn't get anything else out of that spot. Sun was setting and the mosquitos started eating me, so I called it a day. The next morning I came out to find fish surfacing right off his back yard in his swimming hole. I switched to a S6 black stonefly and was hooking 10" brookies every other cast. I had fish striking the surface, the mid water, and the bottom. I didn't even have to put my waders on. Great little fighters. I was using a ultra light rod with 4lb flouro so it made for a fun day. Lost a few, landed a few, and when I deep hooked 2 in a row, I called it quits. Those fish were hungry, healthy, and very plump. Execellent natural river system with very nice fish to be had.
