Fished lower Snohomish just before low tide. As river began to slow and reverse direction the pinks started to come up river like crazy. Kept only the ones that were hooked fatally and released the rest. Two of us brought in 20+ fish and lost more than that on the way to the boat. They were all caught on pink marabou jigs. Looks like the Snohomish is finally starting to fill up with pinks.

Hey Rushwind, I've been on the river 4 times this year, and am using the same gear that everyone else is using, but I've yet to catch a fish! Any tips on using the jigs? It would be much appreciated.

These are the first salmon, pink salmon, and first fish over three pounds I have ever caught but I will offer what I can. I really think for the most part the fish are starting to run in the Snohomish now. I went out a couple of times last week and got skunked.
Did not see that much action but on the 1st of the month they were really coming in. We are using 1/4 oz jigs, cast out and sweep the rod about 12 to 20 inches, drop the rod and reel in the slack, and repeat. When we watch the jig it drops straight down the 12 to 20 inches and then rises up on the next sweep. I don't know if that advice is worth much but when they start running jumping and biting they may go for any technique. I think the timing of the tide is important also. Just as the tide starts to come in and the river slows and begins to reverse they seem to come in. Almost like they are waiting at the mouth of the river for an easy ride in. I wish I could offer some expert advice but I am just learning. Give it another try and good luck!

Thanks Chris. Sounds like what I've been doing........so onto the next possible thing. Are you using maribou jigs or the lead head jigs with the mini squid skirts? We tried both. FISH 4, ME 0. Trying again tomorrow though up by monroe

We have used the Maribou jigs, lead head jigs with the lead painted orange or yellow, rubber pink squid skirts, pink yarn tied onto the lead head jigs all with about the same results. We were down there Tues. We. and Thurs., with about the same results each day. We try to be as careful as we can about releasing the fish but I am starting to worry about the released fish. They all swim away but are pretty tired out. Anyone have any idea of the survival rate of released fish? Let me know how you do and I hope you catch a bunch of fish.
