Fished and camped at this lake for the first time. The weekend before while checking out some new areas I stopped by and talked to some guys cleaning a mess of nice trout. They shore fished at the camping area on the south end of the lake. I made the trip back over for the weekend with my 2 daughters and girl friend. I found a nice spot on the north end of the lake to camp and started fishing with marshmallow and worm while I setup camp. I caught all kinds of small 6-10 inch perch and bass. I could see a boat fishing where the Potholes Canal enters the lake and they were catching quite a few fish, so that's where my daughter and I headed Sat. morn. They were catching mostly walleyes and bass. Not being a walleye fisherman I wasn't quite sure how to fish for them. I heard the guy say 17 inches for size, but I guess he was talking about bass. I knew the size had changed for walleye. Fishing in that part of the canal and lake was almost like river fishing. There is lots of water coming in. As I went by the 2 boats I asked what the trick was on walleye and he said hook a nitecrawler up whole and chuck it out and let it sit on the bottom. I anchored and set up my 7 year old. She had a nice fish on in about 2 minutes. Her first walleye!....I did think to bring a tape and told her they had to be at least 17 inches to keep....this one was 16.5 inches. It's hard telling a 7 year old you have to let her whopper go. Back in the water she went. Another fish in 5 minutes and I hadn't even put my line in the water yet. This fish was just over 16 inches....sorry but have to let it go. I set myself up with a homemade spinner and half a nitecrawler. I bumped that along the bottom and had a fish on right away. This fish was a slug of a fighter, so I'm not impressed at all with the fight of walleye. 15.5 inches, so back that one went. Jessica caught 3 or 4 more and I picked up a couple. All right at 15-17 inches. We quit after a couple hours and headed back.
