wow - what a difference a week makes.... fished about 1 mile south of Snohomish from 3-5:30 and boy was it S L O W. i saw just a handful of coho jumping, but the river was so quiet compared to just a few days ago. several boats went by and none that i spoke to had any action. none.

just as well, since last night i spooled up some new ultragreen line and today encountered the dreaded line twist issue. I lost some tackle trying to untangle my line, then did some casting practice with a just a lead weight as I tried to straighten the line out. I'm pretty sure I spooled it properly - i laid the spool on the floor and had the line coming off counter-clockwise onto my spinning reel which turns clockwise (viewed from above). i'm pretty sure that's correct, but i still got some twist. was able to work most of it out in about 30 minutes and got in some good casting practice..... lol.

so where are all the coho?? are they waiting for rain? upriver already? anyone else on the sno/sky have better luck today?

i was fishing on an incoming tide and there was very little current, which may be part of the problem. it seems i've had more action just before or shortly after a low tide when the river is flowing downstream. wondering if that's a truism or just coincidence.

comments suggestions appreciated. better fishing days to come i hope!!

wndysrf - There is a difference in the diameter of the two spools that makes it twist.
When you are spooling up new line you should allow the line to hang slack every once in a while to look if it twists.
If it does (even slightly), just turn the spool over and add a little line in that direction until the problem corrects itself.

thanks cogitator - i'll have to remember that next time - great tip! what's really funny is i was on the internet and found a lot of bad information of how to spool a reel, and not one mentioned the tip you just shared. thank you.

Curado seems to know. Ask him in the River Forum. He's caught a few and says that Dick Nite are good, and other reports are giving credit to vibrax spinners. I've tried both, but only seem to get humpies. It's still early though....and some have made their way to the wallace already.

the easiest way to straighten out twisted line on a spinning reel is to simply remove lure, swivels, weights, and let all your line float down stream with the current...let it untwist for a couple of minutes, and then reel it back on your reel. ARK
