Beautiful day on the water. Warm sunny day, once all the fog burned off. Got on the water about 11am. Tide was still going out. Fished outgoing tide til slackwater, around 3pm.
On pontoon boats with trolling motors, wife and I worked our way down the creek edge, casting to cover. for the first two hours I tried about everything in the tackle box, black worms, Rebel crawfish, beetlespins in several colors. Finally about 1:30 pm, hooked on a 1/4 oz white rooster tail with a fire red Gulp grub put on the trebel hook so as not to throw off the lure action. Smallmouth bass hit on the 2nd cast! Nice fish. Quite a fighter.
I caught one more smallmouth and a 14" pikeminnow in the next half hour. The pike minnow would have been a money fish if I'd only registered first. Too much bother. At that point the wife was getting ready to go so we got off the water about 3pm.
Plan to get back out in the morning, catch the water level when it's a bit higher just after high tide.
