Had a fun day out on The Green with my bro-in-law. We got there around 9:30 AM at the Isaac Evans Golf Course, we were at the park across the street. Fish were jumping evrywhere! We jumped right in the water using the tried and true corky-yarn combo with about 2.5 ft leder. There was lighting and thunder all around, made for an exciting experience with all the rain. There was one point where we were thinking if we should get out of the water because the lightning was so close - we said "NAH!"

I foul hooked two (returned them gently of course) and lost three. The Humpies still looked pretty good. Saw several Silvers being caught, also still looking pretty good.

The real story of the day, was me confronting an obvious poacher, wish I would have taken his picture. He came down into the river on the bank across from us. He snagged his first one and he put that on his stringer, it upset me, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Two minutes later, he snagged another and as I watched him, I said "If he puts that on his stringer I'm going to yell at him!" My bro agreed, and sure enough, the loser did. So I commenced to reminding him of the rules and telling him he was breaking the law, and he responded "Yeah! Yeah!" I was fired up. By the end of the day when we left at 1 PM, he must have had 18 fish on his stringer, 3 of them were good sized Silvers. He wasn't even using a lure, just a big freaking hook. I should have called FW, but would they have rushed out for this one guy? I don't know, but overall, between my bro-in-law taking a plunge three times in the river, one them being the first ever salmon jumping on his chest and him faling completely under the water, the great weather, and the poacher, I would have to rate this experience a five star outting. Tight Lines!

Hi donman, if you see that guy out there again try to get his auto license number and call DFW enforcement or even the local police. He can be traced back and if caught with those fish in his possession, well, let's just say it'd suck to be him! lol Anyhow thanks for the report. Wish I would have gone out myself today but the rain and thunder squelched my enthusiasm for the 2 1/2 hour drive there from Vancouver! Maybe next week if they are still around...

TIght lines!

@flyfisherguy, you in Vancouver? Why drive all the way to the Green. The Skagit River, which is much closer to you, has plenty of salmon. There may be other salmon fisheries north of Skagit, but that's about as north as I keep track of. :-)

@donman, I was on the verge of heading over to Isaac Evans Park around 1PM but decided against it after seeing very dark clouds and heavy rain. No fish is worth the risk of a car accident. Good to know that silvers are finally showing up at that spot. I'm going to try to get out there for a few hours tomorrow if the weather isn't too bad.

Thanks Flyfisherguy. Lliu I was actually looking for you there. I asked this guy if he might be you, I wanted to get some advice on that spot. I might go back there next week or even tomorrow, and if I see that guy there again, its curtains I tell ya! I don't know if this is worth anything, but he has short black hair, and wears a blue rain suit and fished from the bank across the park. I don't think he was gong to leave until everyone else was gone, because he sure did have alot of fish and if anyone saw him with that many, he would surely cause more trouble than he did. Also, he didnt park in the lot at the Park, he was across the river, so I don't know where he was. So if anyone see's him there, we should do something about it. I hate to be the poaching police, but someone has to do it.

I was just told the other day down on the stilly about a guy that was arrested on the spot, he had a cooler full plus a landing net with the ones that wouldn't fit in the cooler, and was caught on his way out. People like that need to get caught!!!!!!!

@flyfisherguy, LOL! When I saw "2 1/2/ hr drive," I automatically thought "Vancouver BC." :-) I'm going to try to squeeze out some free time to go to the Green this coming Thursday. Hope to see you there. I'll be in my usual camo neoprene waders.

@goodtimesfishing, wow, I'm shocked (cuz I've found the anglers on the Stilly to be very friendly and upstanding) but pleased to hear about the dude who got arrested there.

Well, I was there too and I heard you yelling at the snagger. I was down river on the end and did nothing to support you. I was too busy having fun fishing. You did the right thing by calling him out but we all should have done so. I do not think a call to DFW enforcement would have done anything since there is not enough game wardens to go to all the calls. I'll tell you what from now on instead of just listening I now make a commitment to join you in calling them out. I will also call 911 to report them on each instance. If we all just call and give an aprox. location and description to the local police they can come help out. If they get enough reports on the same people they can watch for them. They always come back to the same spot. They are not afraid of getting caught because their chances are slim. Lets put pressure on the local police to help and call and give them the information they need. We also should call back and get the case # of each report. Just put another peice of paper with your punch card and write it down. Email it to your local fish and game office and to our elected officals. Put the #'s on the fourm and give us the information too. I am sure if they are fishing without lisc and snagging they are wanted on other stuff. Lets snagg snaggers.
