On Saturday I had to drop a kid off in Grand Mound for the day so instead of driving back and forth from Skagit County I decided to spend the day exploring the area and pestering the local fish population. So maps, WDFW regs and information on all the local rivers in hand I headed out. After extensive scouting around I ended up fishing The Willapa, Chehalis and Skookumchuck Rivers (see respective reports).

After success fishing both the Willapa River and Chehalis River at Rainbow Falls I fished the Skookumchuck River for about an hour. Using my typical corky/yarn combo I was able to hook a very red 10 pound coho. After he was safely swimming away I found my way back to the car and headed back to Grand Mound to pick up child and head home.

Did you fish near the Hatchery? Was it fairly crowded? Thanks for the report...

I am not sure where the hatchery is but I was fishing just downstream of I-5. I would like to have spent more time on the Skookumchuck but I was out of time.

The better holes are near the hatchery. That is also where you will find more people too.

I may give the Skookumchuck another shot this weekend. Saturday was an incredible day and my wrist is still sore.
