When I heard the door open when the ladies got back from Black Friday shopping, my son and I bolted out of her parents house and headed back to the North Fork. We arrived up past the hatchery and it wasn't nearly as crowded as yesterday so we nestled into a hole and went at it. We only had 2 hours to fish today so the pressure was on to get some chrome for the smoker. Today just wasn't my day or my sons either at this spot. My son wanted to hit up the hatchery hole and get in the mix with the combat scene. I was having technical difficulties with my reel, so I just kicked back and made chit chat with some of the locals while watching my son go at it. The action was pretty slow at the hatchery hole, but fish were jumping and rolling around and across the river I seen several hookups here and there. I was enjoying watching my son work the drift and he wasn't setting the hook after every little bump like he was during the pink run, he is getting the hang of it. I was packing up our stuff when I heard his voice, "Fish on!" The guys around him all pulled in their lines to let him battle his fish. This was the only action that was going on, so my son grew quite the crowd. 10 minutes later, we beached the fish, unfortunately a red boot so we got a quick picture and released her unharmed. I didn't catch anything today, but watching my son catch and release his fish was pretty cool. Until next time...
