We headed to the Tilton a few days back to try our luck at a few cutthroat. After fishing the hole near the bridge at the park in Morton, we headed upstream to a couple of guys that were constantly landing relatively bright silvers using corkies. A fly fisherman passed by also with a limit of 6 coho, all around 10lbs and very bright. We tried and tried and even with thier advice and guidence, could not land a fish. After heading home dissapointed, we decided to head back this afternoon. After sitting there casting and casting, trying new setups and colors, as well as hook sizes, I finally landed a nice 12lb chinook hen for the smoker. After loosing about 5 othr fish, some due to lack of a net (:-s), decided to head home. In my opinion, a good way to end the year before college starts again!

Does anyone know how they work the hatchery program on the Tilton? Do they release them upstream when they're fry, or do they just find their way up from Mayfield Lake on their own?

They get hauled up from the hatchery on the Cowlitz sometimes. It's spotty fishing but if you're there when they put in a new batch of fish then sometimes you get good action like what tylerb got :-)

Ummm most the fish that we saw, as well as caught, were pretty dark. I only kept the one I did just to show that we went fishing lol...but it turned out very well in the smoker :). But ya there was lots of fish but most came from up river from people with waders able to make the journey. They had just planted the fish when we got there so there was a pletiful stock. I think it would be worth a shot, but most the fish were snagged, but kept anyway. Try heading up river from the park, it may be hard work but should be worth it as they should keep stocking throughout the weeks in December. I could be wrong, but this is what I understand from talking to locals along the river. Might head up there later this week and give it another go......good luck!!
