Fished just above the boat ramp fronting trout hatchery. Long day. Water temp about 45-50 degrees, visibility was about 2 feet and weather was partly cloudy with air temp in the mid 40's. Very crowded below boat ramp and many boats. Had 2 grabs but 1 landed. The first shaking the hook off immediately. The Second with a nice take down. That buck did a few fakes and couple shaky dances in the air but the arch in the pole was solid. Was able to land it, Thank Goodness! First hit was on a #4 hook with two tufts of yarn about a nickel size (Glo bug hot pink & cotton candy) the second on a #1 hook with a yarn ball the size of a half dollar (Glo bug pink and chartreuse) both setups tip with shrimp smelly jelly. Straight yarn no cheaters. Did notice Guides using red cheaters with red yarn and the same with hot pink cheater with hot pink yarn. Fishes was caught 10-15 ft from shore. **One thing I noticed. While sensing the weight tick, bonk or thump the bottom the steelhead take is more like a tug. (Could either be soft or sharp) In my case I have had both and what a great feeling when she reacts! Have Fun and Fish on!
