Had a great day on the upper sky. Was hoping for atleast a 14 incher to be legal to bring home but all fish were beauties in the 10-12 inch range. Floated a jig tiped with shrimp and caught 13 fish, dad got 1. HAHAH not his fault a group of kyakers came splashing down right through our drift and beached right next to him... Anyways when the fish hit I swear they were bigger because they fight like crazy. I had tried my fly rod an nothing, and a jig nothing. as soon as i tipped it with shrimp, bam. 7 casts seven fish, then it died, so on to a new hole for the rest. I will definatly be going back, but I sure hope there are some bigger ones.

I don't know that targeting smolts is what we want to see on our local rivers. Those are 12# fish when they get back in 2012, and my guess is that anglers that aren't savy enough to avoid catching a bunch of smolts probably aren't savy enough to release them unharmned.

Ol you trying to say that he is only entitled to catch two dinks ? lol . You put some shrimp on a hook any hungry fish in the area will eat it. The sky steelhead have been having some serious lock jaw lately. I don't think he was targetting the little ones i'm sure he was trying to get a beast but instead of clowning him maybe you should give him some advice.

Wow we got some class A Dicks on here. First, who "targets" smolts. I dont have x-ray vision so how am I supposed to know theres not a big one laying in that beautiful hole. Second I was usuing barbless hooks because I also have fished the Skykomish for years, my father before I, and my grandfather before him. I know that in the summer you can find these smaller guys, and therefore used the barbless hook. None of them showed any blood, and they all were kept in the water when released and swam off faster than i could blink. If I wanted to target these fish, I would have kept them all no matter how big, used a barb, and not written the report. Instead i released them all and let you all know what i found. Sorry??
