Arrived at the lake around 9:30 with very few people there. Rowed out to the main body directly and encountered four other boats drowning chironomids. Didn't see much action during the time I watched them. I worked the reed beds with no results and decided to go deep. Tied on a bleeding leech and let it sink to the bottom. When I started a slow stripping action, I started getting regular hookups with the fish averaging 18". Around 1:00, there was a little surface activity so I tied on a Ginger-face caddis and quickly caught two. I missed the next three strikes and went to change my fly only to discover the hook tip had broken off... Oh well, another lesson learned. My buddy hooked up with the largest fish of the trip; a hen around 24" and full of eggs (see photo if I did it right...) Caught several more fish deep and headed out around 5pm. Great day of fishing!
