After a lazy start to our Sunday we hit the Cascade River Sunday afternoon. We fished the general area downstream of Jordan Creek. The crowd was not bad and we had the area that we were fishing to ourselves. We drift fished Dick Nights, FSTs and corkies and yarn combos and float fished various combinations of jigs/cured shrimp or cheater weights and sand shrimp. The fishing was a major adrenaline rush. Although we had hits just drift fishing the seam many hits came off of fish that were puddling up in the river. We would cast about 15 feet ahead them and drift through the area that they were holding in. If you got it right, it was an instant hook-up (all the fish that jumped after being hooked were hooked in the corner of the mouth). My 11 year old got a chinook that we estimate was 25-30 pounds. It self released as it ran down the tail out and around the corner. We had constant action for the short time we were there but didn’t actually put a fish on the beach. It was a long overdue afternoon of action and we had great time.
