A good buddy of mine and I made our annual fishing trip to the upper Skagit area. First stop was the Cascade. I've been following the reports and knowing the river isn't like it was back in the day we figured there may be a chance we could hook some black as a boot Coho.

We've been fishing there for over 20 years, when the river was holding water pool's. Just after sun up we were standing at the filled in hole. Air was crisp and clear, snow on the tops of the Mountians, Nice..

My buddy started in the top, boiling water. Me, I went to the tail out with the float. He had 5 fish in a snap on the corky. I then moved up, we had a blast there before the sun hit the water. I kept seeing a large bright fish boiling in the tail out ? I think it's a caught fish on a broke off line and is still there. I went low again about 09:30 to see if I could hook this fish.

Peach/Burnt Orange set up and 3 casts later FISH ON. Steely and it was all over the place. I was shocked. I layed the rod down flat on the water to keep him from jumping and soon was on the rocks for pictures. Nice fish for the BBQ.

This mystery fish still boiling in that spot. I tried to snag the line and brake the thing loose but no luck, maybe it did it on it's own, hope so. Any ways we went back up top and could see many dark Coho in the slot. There's another hole above that was full of fish and people having fun all day, not sure if they were biting fish or foul hooked but they let many go in the tail out. Great day on the Cascade for Us, kinda like the old days.

From there we headed to the Chum bar on the Skagit, we hooke a few there as well and the made the drive home as the weather went from nice to Rain.. Here is a few pictures.
