Went to the Green a bit late- early afternoon. Thought about fishing even witht he late start, rain, and brought the gear but decided to walk down and see what was up first.

There were some people fishing but not as crowded as I thought it might be. There were some fish being caught but not at all the nonstop action I was looking for that would have had me going back to the car to get out there.

So instead I walked up and down just a bit talking with people (around Hwy 18 area), handing out a bit of smoked salmon, and just seeing how things were going for people in general.

Sounded like morning was better. The river is higher than when I like to fish it so was taking a fair amount of lead to get down for those fishing the far slot. Everyone was targeting the far slot (north bank) seemed like.

I ran into a few familiar with WAlakes.com so that was fun.

The other fun thing that got me to putting this post up and as a 3 (instead of maybe 2) was that a gentleman hooked into a small chum, walked back to the bank, then handed his rod off to dicinu's (on WAlakes here) son to land the fish. That's where the first pic comes in.

Wasn't far to bring the fish in after the guy got it in that far, but more importantly dicinu's son was able to land his first chum! OK, so it was a bit borderline zombie and definitely a boot so it went back but it is always great to see a fellow fisherman/woman take the time to give a newcomer a chance to have a bit of fun out there.

Thumbs up to the guy that did this. I didn't get his name (LOL I did get his hand in the photo holding the leader), but if he reads this here's a shout out to you doin' good keeping things positive on the river.

The other (2nd) pic shows the fairly high water and how deep people were wading to fish that far slot, plus he was hooked into a chum that bent his rod a good amount but eventually came unbuttoned.

Was nice running into a couple of you out there. Hope the smoked salmon was good :-) Maybe n ext time I won't be lazy and will throw some casts. Although I don't know how much I'll be getting out.

Again the 3 star was for some chum being caught, the sportsmanship on the water, and not my # caught since I didn't fish.

Good luck everyone!

Well it was a pleasure meeting you yesterday Knots. The salmon was was great, my son and i both loved it. The way i see it if the littleman is willing to brave that weather and cold water letting him land the fish was the least i could do to reward him. David

Nice report! Sounds like a good time on the river for those that were there. Hey Knot, you weren't handing out that boot you smoked were you??? ;)

Gringo Pescador, remind me to issue a disclaimer before handing out next time just in case some nboot gets mixed in ;-). Actually it was chinook and not boot. The only boot I smoked this season (so far LOL) was a small piece and that was the chinook I had in the boots thread for experimenting. I still have enough 'good' salmon to avoid smoking boots.
My wife makes good use of boots by processing them with food processor, spices and stuff to make fish balls and fish cake.

Chromerss, good to see you reading the report! I've seen people hand off to kids before, but you went out of your way to call him over (he was behind me and dicinu while we were talking) and it was his first salmon.
The fishing wasn't exactly on fire plus your own son was there so that's why I singled out your fishing karma :-) I'm confident dicinu's son will be getting more practice next year with the pinks. Hopefully a little more practice this year too. The river when it is up like it is can be tougher fishing for beginners.
