Well my wife asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday this month and it was a no brainer......take the day off work and go fishing for large B-Run Steelhead on the Clearwater River in Orofino, ID. My dad, brother-in-law and I left for the three hour drive from Spokane, WA in the wee hours to get down there early so we could float fish with lighted bobbers. However, the fish did not cooperate early on as we only had a few minor bumps to our offerings. But the fish more than made up for this in the afternoon as we saw about 15-20 steelhead caught around us and had a blast seeing large steelhead swirl, roll and jump out of the water frequently as we fished. It was as if someone turned on a light switch int he afternoon and the steelhead instantly became a lot more active and guys were catching fish up and down the river. It also made you keep casting your float and jig in the seems where you thought steelhead were holding, and stay attentive hoping for a bobber down at any time. We ended up catching four steelhead and were able to bring home three nice hatchery steelhead. Though we were very tired on the three hour drive back, we talked about the great day we had on the water chasing these magnificent and addictive fish and look forward to the day we can go and do it again.
