I went fishing in the morning for a few hours and fished my usual spot. I had to fish different holes just to avoid the crowds but at about ten o'clock I had my only hit. At first I thought I was snagged on some branches that were floating down river so i reeled my line and it started to pull back and then the fight was on. The fish spooled me down river but i kept my rod down and she decided to go up river and thats when I had changed my mind to finally let somebody net her. I used a 7' leader and two small red corkies.

You don't use a 7' leader when drift fishing, you use it for flossing. I don't have a problem with it, if you do it right and are set up for it.

Cowlitz rules are gill plate forward so dont hate the fisherman hate the rules. I don't care if he caught it in the eye. Legal is legal and personal opinions just start fights. In the mouth is always better (which I assume this one was) but a 7' leader is long enough to get the lure away from the clacking of the weight as it drifts. It does not imply anything more than he knows what he is doing. He has the fish to show for it.
