We ran some trips this past week and had boats out this Memorial weekend. Great fishing and good catching were had on the upper river and in the farmlands. As of today the river is at just over 3000 cfs in Cle Elum and just about 5000 at Umtanum. The trout finally have some major relief from the big flows, and while still higher than normal for this time, our river is certainly very fishable! Great visibility, and definitely some bugs. There were some serious caddis popping this week and weekend, and the fish are eating. Not much dry flying, but this week looks promising for that with more favorable flows. The all star flies as of lately have been Holo Princes, Green Copper Johns, Lightning Bugs, Big Black and Brown Stones, and the Hungarian Caddis Pupa, and of course the X-Caddis. Currently, the main left channel below the East Cle Elum/state launch is again blocked by a sweeper, and the hairy blockage above Irene Rinehart Park remains. Say hello to our summer season, and an ample supply of water in the West.
