Every few years I go to Clear Lake for opening day, and this year was one of those years. Clear Lake has always been a great fishin hole for me, producing some of the biggest trout I have ever caught. Not to mention the koke's and smallies. I have to say that I was a bit dissapointed this time around. Not with the fishing experience, but with the size of the planted fish. Was it just me, or were this years planters looking more like the herring you buy for baitfish, than trout you would want to catch?? Maybe they planted them as feeders for the smallies? I did manage to find a couple of the bigger planters, but no luck on the monster holdovers that I know are out there. All in all, I just love the onpening day experience. On the lake by 4am, set back with my cup of joe and watch the line at the boat launch get longer and longer..... Anyway, dont just set there, GO FISH!
