Despite the negative fishing reports targeting the Little Deschutes River in Olympia, we are able to provide a more positive note. We started fishing around six at night at the far Western point of Pioneer Pard and up to 300m beyond, drift fishing in the deeper holes with stoneflies. As the sun set, we moved to dry flies and had slightly less success. Only one bow that was caught was a keeper but the total count was about 6 in a three hour period.

Thanks for the report. I might be camping near Tenino around the end of July and have been researching the fishing around there. Looks like the Little Deschutes river is close to where we are camping. Any steelhead being caught around there?

On the report listing page it lists this report as being from "Eric Olsen" but on the top of this page it is from "Rangerebo" ???
Which is which?? I grew up with an Eric Olsen from the Edmonds area, who fished a lot as an adult. Just curious??? Aurora Village, etc. Person in the pic. does not look like an Eric. (-:

@ rangerbro, " Only one bow that was caught was a keeper " page 43 in the regs, Deschutes is CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY!

@scraig1962, check out the Skookumchuck river in Tenino for stealhead.

Catch and release only. Most of the trout caught are Cutthroat. Thanks for the report.

All comments considered...I am Eric, I don't know if it was a bow or a cut throat (couldn't see it up close) and I had to put a picture of my wife on here because she was the only one that caught anything - happy?

I grew up fishing that river and It was so glad to see that it still gives up its fish. It is such a pretty place to fish. We never got any Steelies, but cutties, bows were plentiful as well as crawfish!

We never keep any fish just quickly snap pictures and return them to water. I understand the confusion by stating that one of the fish was a "keeper." My only intention was to state that only one of the fish caught here was on the larger size. S/he was quickly and safely returned for someone else to catch. :)
