Today’s 0.7 low tide didn’t help with fishing this morning for my brother in-law Dan and I with our wives along for the ride. Dan wanted one last shot at these amazing salmon before his returns to NY on Monday.

We joined hundreds of people on the river at 7:30 am (Langus Park Launch was full by then as was most of the overflow parking spots across the street). We took our time maneuvering through the dense fog and arrived at our lucky spot from last week’s trips. There was a ton of exposed shoreline with the tide out so far and people lined the bank, many standing chest high in the river without waders which was entertaining to watch.

We casted for hours as a few fish jumped here and there but nothing like last week when we fished the high tide. By 11:30 I had hooked and lost 3 fish and that was it. We saw the sporadic fish caught every so often but the fish were by no means jumpin in the boat, at least not fir us.

By around noon we were back at the Langus Park Launch where lots of people were showing up to fish the incoming tide which I believe will pay dividends, except that many were trying to remove their boats after fishing all morning while others where there to launch, all while the tide was very low leaving one of the two docks all but out of the water.

As we waited our turn out on the river to remove our boat, we watched as one very clueless older guy with two adult females (one of the two was pregnant) try to launch his 16’ lake boat. I guess he didn’t realize that the three boats already on the dock were trying to remove their boats so he just backed right down and started his long launching process while everyone watched in amazement. We watched as this guy backed his boat down into the low tide water nearly hitting the boat behind his and forgetting to remove his trailer strap from his bow as it peeled off of the winch. Needless to say it took him about 15 minutes to get his act together while everyone waited becoming more and more pissed off by the minute. He finally returned from parking his truck and trailer and as he left the dock in an attempt to go around everyone waiting to remove their boats, his motor wouldn’t start so he lumbered past the others forcing them to get to their boats to make sure he didn’t ram into them. I think several people there wanted to ring his little neck!

I finally make it to the launch utilizing the dock that is barely in the water and I make a mad dash to my vehicle which is parked on the street right across from the launch entrance so it only took me about 3 minutes to get my vehicle and return to the launch. I passed maybe 6 people waiting to launch and as I begin backing down to get my boat out of the way, I see some other clueless individual (likely related to the other clueless guy) and he is trying to launch his 10’ Livingston. My brother in-law kindly tells this clown that we are removing and he says, “oh,,,,, I thought you had just launched.” Duuhhhhhhh! So he gets in his truck to get out of the way and as he pulls away to make room for me, his boat comes off of his trailer. OOPS! So about 3 guys run over to him and help him put his boat back on his trailer and off he went.

So; How many people does it take to screw up a very busy river boat launch for everyone else??? ONE!!! …………….……. Or TWO tops!

Here I am saying never. I will never go to the river during a pink salmon or other busy salmon run on the weekend again! It took the word zoo to a whole new level for me. BTW, everyone was great at the launch except the two circus clowns who had no business being there under those conditions where experience is a necessity. JMO.

Sorry you didn't have any luck. Sounds like the Langus launch is about the same circus side show that the Snohomish launch is.

I'm sure it is Colin. The launch was crazy so add someone who is clueless and it's a disaster! Hope you slay em on Tuesday Mike. I really believe that the low tide had everything to do with our poor luck. Last week all 4 trips were at high tide and we slayed em. Next Friday high tide is at 0818 hrs. I'll be out there then.

Everyone is a fisherman when the humpies run. If theres a person who has never fished, theres no doubt they will hear everyone talking about how fun and EZ humpies are to catch, will go buy a humpy special rod and reel, 5 pink jigs, (walk right by the reg books on the counter) and go hit the river, meanwhile ruining it for everyone else who has been waiting two years for this ONE MONTH of amazing salmon fishing.

Frustrating, yes. Impossible to have fun anyway? No, just avoid the crazies. Saturday mornings are a headache waiting to happen if you ask me.
