Fished samish this morning after a light sprinkle last night. WOW it did some work on those fish waiting in the bay. over 500 fish moved past me today heading upriver. Anyways, secret spot on friend/farmers land. Landed 33 chinook salmon. 15 -20 were jacks tho. The fish were running up and like 80% were super chrome fresh kings. Red Fire Cure Eggs today, the kings were gulping em down. Spitting it out, picking it back up, following it to the bank. Sooo many hungry chromers! it was legit fishing. ended up taking home a 34 pound chromed out hen, and a 28 pound chromed out buck. And yea i released fish on the samish... this is because i tie my eggs 3 inches above the hook, so i hook them on the outside of the mouth, thus having to be released. Then when u wanna keep em, tie the eggs on the hook. Works great and makes ur arms tired after a while of fighting hawgs. The pictures are of a 34 pound chromer and a double header me and my buddy released

Many years ago before bobber fishing was so popular, an old timer told me these kings were just mouthing and moving eggs around. We would only use just a swivel and leader and a glob of king eggs and work around the piling and other likely spots and do surprisingly well when other fishermen were struggling. Kings got on the endangered species list and it was tough to find king eggs (for me) Whenever I would scrounge some up they were strickly for the Samish. Nice to see fresh fish.

Thats exactly what my dad use to do back in the day, especially for silvers down by the pilings. No bobber just letting the eggs tumble along the bottom. He did really well also!

did you read the last of the article dude? U have to stop fishing if you hook 2 fish INSIDE THE MOUTH. thats the new rule. I tie my eggs above the hook so they get hooked on the OUTSIDE of the mouth, thus having to be released so i can keep fishing.

so i ran into a game warden and asked about this hooking them outside the mouth and he said any fish hooked from the gill plate to mouth is a legally hooked fish so unless your hooking them behind the gill you shoulda stoped after 2 and if your hooking them outsideof the gill plate in the body on purpose even if there taking eggs it would be considered snagging i could really careless because i think its rediculous you have to keep the first 2 you get but i would be careful posting that your doing this.

Dude i understand you completely but the SAMISH runs of different rules bro. ALL rivers is gillplate forward, EXCEPT samish. They made a INSIDE THE MOUTH only rule this year to reduce flossers. SO technically snagging is where the fish does not voluntarily take the bait, well my fish are taking it voluntarily, and im still hooking them gillplate forward just on the outside of the mouth, so they are "snagged". But since the samish is INSIDE THE MOUTH only, i am forced to release them even tho they voluntarily took the bait in the mouth, its a SICK loophole and ive called the dep. of fish and wildlife and they were like stutttering and said "thats not the point" but ended up saying NO i cannot get a ticket for that. LOLOL

because i am still hooking them gillplate forward and they are taking the hook voluntarily, but the hook is never INSIDE the mouth and on the samish this year that means release. Get it?? haha
