dont use braid in the rivers you clog up the holes with that shit. monos just as good as everything else, just use a good brand and learn how to play the fish.

Drag too tight? Line not heavy enough? There shouldn't be any diff. between braid and mono as far as getting the fish in, if your line is strong enough, for kings in the river I'd be using at LEAST 20 lb. test with a leader 5 lbs. lighter so you won't lose a whole lot of line in the river. Good luck! bob r

I use Berkley 17 mono smooth cast as main and 14 lbs Biograde maxima for leaders and I never break.....My knots some times come un done but never break. I have pulled over an 8in round tree on the other side of the river. Its all in the reel you use and how you use it. I see guys landing 18-20 lbs Kings all day on 10 lbs shakespear line.
That Being said anyone who honesly knows what there doing when using braid will not even be noticed, nothing wrong with that. Its the guys that use braid and dont know what they are doing that reep havok on the land and other anglers.

I use 12lb mono and have no problem landing a 25lb King down there. Keep the BRAID out of the rivers it just messes up the holes!!!
