It was game on from the start. Got to my new favorite spot on the green near the highway 18 bridge. First cast fish on. Released himself after a short fight. Second cast fish on, shorter fight than the first. Released a few foul hooked in the hump, and lost a few more close to shore. A lot of people were getting hooks out of fish and litterally kicking them back into the water. Had one float toward me just released. Played doctor with him, a huge male, for a few minutes holding him upright for a few minutes before he finally swam off. All in all limited in a few hours with four hens and two bucks. Two of the girls still had some great shimmer and dark pink flesh.
On the way back, someone landed a sockeye.... big red buck...??? I think he got lost. He was pretty beat up.
My fiance came home with three hens and a 6lbs buck, and the defeated feeling of being outfished by a girl.

there is a small population of sockeye spawning in the green. I was volunteering one year at the keta creek hatchery for school and we had to males show up. nice fish btw

Good to know they are still hanging on a little then. First time I've ever seen one caught in the green river.

My lady has outfished me a couple times this season too. Lets just be glad we found a woman that loves to fish. Thanks for the report and tight lines.

I'm with Return. Even though it costs me 10 bucks when Joey out fishes it is well worth the time and investment.

I'm so sorry, I just realized you are a woman. Competiton makes fishing fun with our partners as well as spending quality time together getting the lines wet and putting fish on the stringer.

They plant 50,000 to 80,000 kokanee fry each year in lake Sawyer. Green River Coho go through Lake Sawyer and spawn in the small inlet creek. There is not huge fishery for kokes on sawyer, most of them end up as bass food. Some may go out to the Ocean and return as Adult Sockeye. Thanks for the report.

Return - no need to apologize. I know the rarity of my gender that loves to fish. Some of my friends think I'm crazy, which is probably not far from the truth.

Side note - thankfully I had six slots left on my catch record. Limit yesterday filled the first one of the year! Off to get a new one and back to the green soon.

Nice getting a limit! The fish are definitely getting greened up it looks like and humped up. The big red buck MIGHT have been a coho. Of course I didn't see the fish and it is a little early for firetruck bucks but is entirely possible, just going off the description. I still wouldn't mind one more good outing of pinks but sure starting to look like they'd need to be picked thru.
Coho are coming. Wish the nets weren't so prevalent in the lower Duw so we could get a nice push of the coho buggers. Good luck and thanx for the report!
