Hit water at day break. Found a spot with some slow water up from the Gardener Rd launch in Burlington. Last week it was all about the pinks, so I tied up a Wicked Willie. But my son-in-law wanted a Silver, so he tied on a bronze and gold Steelie. His first cast..BAM..a nice six pound coho takes the lure and does the shake and shimmy across the top of the water. It was a good fighter. Much better than the humpies we've had the previous few weeks. I wasted no time and started digging in the tackle box for a Steelie, but before I could tie it up, the kid hooks up again. It was a big one that heads down river, it find a log and shakes loose. My turn next. It was only a few casts and we had our second Silver in the boat. Son-in-law then ties on a chartreuse Vibrax and again, on his first cast, he get a 7 lb Coho. Thirty minute and three fish silvers in the boat. It was definately a good start to the day. We spend the next several hours with very little action. Finally, we move to a new spot and I went back to the pink Wicked Willie. The pinks are jumping all around and I had some fun catching and releasing. I must have caught a dozen. So many that son-in-law won't net them any more because as soon as he put the net back, got his pole set and ready to cast, I had another humpy on. I kept a couple of the nicer hens to give to friends. No rain and pretty consistant action.. All in all, a very good day and it bodes well for the coming Silver run.
