Although we had planned to do a weekend outing and either fish the upper Columbia for chinook or somewhere in the Grays Harbor area we had a last minute kid issue so we stayed closer to home and fished the Snohomish (see other report) and the South fork of the Nooksack this weekend.
After a successful trip to the Snohomish earlier in the day we tucked the boat in, in the garage and decided to head north and check out the South Fork of the Nooksack above the Saxon Bridge. There were 8 or 9 rigs in the parking area but the river gauge indicated that the flow was very low so I knew there would be plenty of room to fish. So we stopped, geared up and went fishing. In talking with people there were a few fish being caught but it was not wide open fishing. I went with my tried and true bead and yarn drift gear and with-in the first few casts I was into a fish. It turned out to be a decent condition buck that I released safe and sound. We fished the area for a couple hours and had a fish on every 10-15 minutes (all legally hooked). The fish, a mix of bright hens and not bad bucks were all released unharmed. We had a blast and didn’t have to clean fish when we got home…again.
