Although we had planned to do a weekend outing and either fish the upper Columbia for chinook or somewhere in the Grays Harbor area we had a last minute kid issue so we stayed closer to home and fished the Snohomish (see other report) and the South fork of the Nooksack this weekend. Saturday evening I got a call from a good friend. His friend wanted to take his father who was visiting from way out of town fishing and was wondering where he could go. I thought about it for a few minutes and said lets take him up and fish the South fork of the Nooksack.

We got to the river around 7:30-8:00 and there were quite a few rigs in the parking area but we decided to give it a go anyway. While we hiked in we talked about the quick transition from summer to fall, I’m not ready for fall/winter! As with the evening before I went with my tried and true bead and yarn drift gear. A short while later I was into a semi bright buck which we decided to keep. The fishing was much slower than it was the previous evening but between us we had fairly consistent action during the 3 or 4 hours we fished. The best part was that our out of town guest caught a nice fish.

Sunday morning I started out with a few foul hooked fish mixed into my catch so I dropped down hook size and the follow-on fish were all legally hooked. We had a great morning of fellowship, fishing and the trip was a success. We kept 3 fish but didn’t count the number of fish released or lost.
