Ok, figured since I had an extra hour of sleep, I'd try the green again. Fished just below the Hwy 18 over pass all the way down stream to the "log jam" sign. I saw a few rollers out close to the other side of the bank but absolutely no joy. Got icy, very icy; reel almost froze up, eyelets were building up with ice. I almost fell in, thank God I caught my balance. Water was clear, not too high, swift in places, very few leaves, and not too many zombies floating down. Talked to a King County parks guy, said that there's not a lot of fish coming out of the area any more. He told me about the guy who fell in, God rest his soul. He had his coat on the outside of his waders so he couldn't unbuckle once they filled up; here I was with the same coat set up. Cool guy though, gave me a ride out in the 28 degree cold! Just a topic starter. How do you wear your waders? Mine may be too tight to put a coat inside, looks like I need to break out the wool sweater to go over my wool shirt! LOL. After I heard about the drowning I did a little research on the net. Here's what I found out. Most people who are wearing waders, chest or hip do not drown because of the waders. The three primary reasons they drown are: 1) they panic, 2) hypothermia, 3) they get snagged up on something. Waders filled with water will not cause you any grief until you try to get out of the river. As difficult as it will be to do, try to remain common and work yourself toward the bank if you go in. Hopefully you won't have to drag yourself up a steep bank with your nickers full of water.

If you do a little research on the internet you'll find some you-tube videos of guys testing waders etc. in the river to see what happens.

There are fishing vests available on-line that have built in PFD's. I've seen them for as little as $50 bucks... pretty cheap compared to how much your funeral will cost, eh? Even the $100 dollar SOS suspenders are a good value if your life has any value at all. Buy a PFD for yourself and buy another one as a Christmas present for someone else!

I have to strongly disagree with jobshopper on this issue. When waders fill up, they will suck you down like nobody's business. The guy that died on the Green was trying to cross the river when his waders filled up and sucked him under. Not a week later the same thing happened to another person at the same spot. Luckily we were able to pull them out. Always wear a life vest or PFD when wearing waders, and make sure you can slip out of them easily if need be.
