Fished the upper Puyallup today just upriver from the McMillan Bridge. Have seen one or two guys fishing there everytime I've driven by the last few weeks, including yesterday so thought I'd give it a shot. Fished varying colors of Yarn and Corkies using a little shrimp oil to bump up my chances. Fished varying lengths of leader as well between 5' to 9'. No hook sets and only saw one fish roll and unfortunately it was on my side of the river. This is my first year salmon fishing in freshwater rivers and the only other place I've fished is below the Old Cannery on the Puyallup during the height of the Pink run with 9000 other guys. The corkies and yarn worked well there. If anyone could point me in the right direction on how to fish the upper parts of the Puyallup, it would be greatly appreciated. I much prefer this section of river. I don't feel like I'm going to catch something if the water accidentally touches my skin like I felt down near the cannery.
Thanks in advance,
Dubltap

I don't think leader length matters to much I seem to do the best with purple or pink. maybe about 3 or 4 in. long. I use sand shrimp oil. All the fish I have caught have been in slow deep water in midle of hole.

If you're going for silvers; eggs, or spinners are the way to go. They hold right at the bottom....find a pool, and drift eggs right in front of their face, or cast a spinner past the pool....let it sink, and then sporadically reel in, keeping it close to the bottom.....hope this helps
