12/25/2011 12:23:00 AMI'm glad that somone atleast is having some good luck with the water so low. I fished yesterday at Reiter and it was really slow. Tried a few more holes along the sky, and nothing either.

12/25/2011 2:21:00 AMbelieve it or not I have had better luck during these low clear water conditions than when the river was high...when the river is high I seriously watch everyone else catch fish, it's a joke....i grew up steelheading east coast style from the great lakes and they don't get alot of rain there so the water is always low and clear...to increase your luck you just got to fish a little different just down size on your gear and use longer lighter leaders and fish the likely holding spots hard and with confidence....i use to fish with an 11'6" noodle rod and use 3-4 pound leader when in the east and i've landed plenty of fish in the eight pound range, of course i've adapted to the northwest but still love fishing longer rods and light gear...adapt to the low clear water and you can seriously consistently catch fish....i've been fishing every week since mid november and I've caught atleast one hatchery steelhead each outing and limited out multiple times, i've gotten skunked once when the river was high but still good clarity; which is an amazing season for steelheading. Other seasons i've gotten skunked 5 or 6 times before catching a steelhead.

12/25/2011 2:40:00 AMIt's always worth going out there to steelhead...if not catching fish you are always learning something new that will better your chances of catching one next time and spend the time out there perfecting your skills....i've learned that the best skill to learn steelheading is learning how to adapt or change to them...i've been trying to pick a fellow steelheader's brain for a few years and he never gave me a definative answer which always left me frustrated....he would always say "it depends" and I now realize why he always catches fish;)
