1/16/2012 5:13:00 PMAre you sure they were Brook trout? I have never known that there were any Brookies on the Peninsula except for a few alpine lakes in the Olympics and they were introduced.. The Dolly Varden can be confused with a Brookie especially when young, I wonder if maybe that is what you were catching...

1/16/2012 7:22:00 PMno, i caught a dolly up there too and it had no black on the fins, but the other ones i caught up in the lake had black on the fins, the ones in the river well im not sure they had big splotches of brown in a row across the gills to the tail with black spots but the rest was silver. I had always thought they were baby brookies

1/16/2012 9:25:00 PMThere are plenty of brook trout in the hamma hamma, lena creek, and lena lakes. Ive fly fished these areas for years and Ive caught mostly brook trout, a few cutthroat, a rare rainbow here and there, and once in awhile a dolly.

1/19/2012 9:24:00 PMI used to fish Lena Lakes and several other no-name lakes in the Hamma Hamma drainage (in the late 1990's), all of which contained brookies and all of which drained into the Hamma Hamma. I would agree with the color preference....another good lure is a Thomas Bouyant spoon that comes in brass with orange and black spots with a red stripe. Brookies usually have a blue "halo" around their spots, and dollies normally do not.
