Well I was expecting a decent day because the weather forecasted warmer weather. Also a previous report I read of a guy hooking into 9 fish but landing one. I head to the river and see that it looked very good. I had high hopes. The first few hours I see my bobber go down a few times but couldn't feel a fish. One time I see a small scale on the end of my hook which was from a bright steelie. I must have almost snagged one by accident. After that I couldn't get one on all day long. Very tough fishing conditions. Later I watch the northwest wild country show with herzog, dwayne etc...Herzog was saying that he wouldn't go out fishing on a day like today because when the water is rising it usually won't be a good bite. That was totally true. Although the water was warming up. The snow was melting causing the river to do a steady rise. The water clarity was about 2 feet and the water was rising above six feet. My streak is officially over. Finally got skunked after several trips. Man do I miss feeling the headshakes of those premo steelhead. Got spoiled there for sometime.
Any body know how the fishing is in the OP during February through april?
I may even plan a trip to the chilliwack in B.C. for some steel...those fish get bigger than the ones we catch here
to make this report more interesting i've posted a picture of me fishing last year at reiter similar to the condition I fished on saturday...my other photo is the largest hatchery steelhead i've ever caught on the bogi
enjoy and
fish on!!!
