Worked some extra hours last week so got to flex a day off this week. Had stuff to do in the afternoon so I ran up to the Sky to see what was happening. Wind started about Sultan and just got stronger the farther east I went. Hit the river about 7:30am. Wind made it tough to cast and mend your line, but I was on the river and not at work - so I was staying.
1st fish hit about 8am, bobber down and had to do a double hookset because I had to give so much of my line to the wind for a natural float. But he still stuck. A little buck with a little blush to it. If it had been my 2nd fish I probably wouldn've let him go. But it was my 1st non-native fish of 2012, so I bonked it.
2nd one was a larger/brighter hen. I actually had finished my drift and just started to reel in when I felt weight on my line, set the hook and fish on! Guy just downstream of me casted over and got hung up on my line, but realized it in time and just let his freespool until I got mine in. Payed him back with some of my cured prawns and about 10 minutes later, netted his fish.
Limit by 8:30am Whodathunkit! I never even changed jigs, broke out my 2nd rig or changed rocks.
