2/14/2012 10:49:00 PMOh my gosh. Hydra's sister caught fish from the bank. While the boyz bobbed the branches and river conditions on there watercraft. Water does look fishy, in the pictures.

2/15/2012 8:11:00 AMWhat a great day! The whole river looked fishy to me! We got a late start (about 8am I believe) - I heard reports later from a friend that the earlier boats had better luck - can't confirm it though. I definately want to give it another go! Being it was my maiden voyage, I spent a lot of the trip figuring out how the boat handled, where to put stuff etc. The one I did land I actually caught side drifting a float/jig. Mike & Nate were too far downriver at that point to hear my screams. Wish they would've been closer to get video - what a circus! Went something like this... Bobber down! > Hookset! > Tighten line! > Loosen drag! > Throw the rod in the holder and ROW ROW ROW! > Hit the bank & drop anchor! - boat still moving damn! > Shallow water? yes! > Jump! > Grab pole with one hand, beach toon with the other! > Now fight and land the fish. > By the time the fish was in my hands I could hardly breathe!

2/15/2012 5:51:00 PMSounds like a great adventure!! My latest experiences on the Nooch have shown me that I have caught more fish in the non-fishy looking areas.....like tight to the bank amidst the trees. I think moving fish go through the great looking holes but as boats and fishing activity go through them the fish tend to move toward the bank. Very expensive fishing to be tossing into trees and debris for a 12 mile drift but the results can be spectacular. And being towards the front of the "fleet" is also important. Sometimes it is better to skip some upper holes to get ahead of the boat traffic and fish unmolested areas. Or the other trick is to take shorter drifts later in the day after the river has rested from the early boats. Have definitely seen that work.

2/15/2012 6:27:00 PMdang Gringo, I wish I had seen that. Other high point - first four hours of Nate saying "this is so cool!" Yup, there is nothing like floating down a river. Video - well, I would rather do one with actual fish in it, so we'll just have to hit that river again I think. :-)
