I called up Scotty and asked him if he wanted to fish the river today with Mel and myself and of course he said yes. We fished jerk baits, spinnerbaits, rapalas, swimbaits, spoons, and crankbaits. The water temp was 37-38 when the sun was out. Mel started the day out with a nice 6lb fish, but then wasnt able to repeat the catching process the rest of the day. Scotty had the hot hand today catching 4 fish weighing anywhere from 5lbs to almost 7lbs. Yours truely had 4 fish follow but wasnt able to get them to take anything. So needless to say I got skunked lol. I guess thats the way it goes, especially this time of year where fishing is good one day and nothing the next. Doug W you might as well throw that new St Croix away since you started out catching a trout with it, its tainted forever now lol. I want to let everyone know all the fish we caught are happily swimming back in the river getting ready to spawn soon hopefully. I would incourage everyone to please release as many as you can. Lets not help to destroy this great fishery we have right here in our back yards. I have implamented a personal slot of anything under 18" and below if I want to keep anything. I figure thats about the size thats going to be left when everythings said and done. So lets help preserve the bigger age class. If anyone is interested in a trip on the Pend Oreille River give us a call. Good fising everyone

The boys at Dynamic would be proud to see that Dynamo hanging out of that fish's mouth. Looks like it's time to get back up there. Thanks for the report.

18" minimum the department does not agree with your theory. The game department said they will kill all fish under 18 pounds! And are encouraging anglers to do the same! They will start later this month with the nets at sloughs. They want to reduce the pike by 87 percent. About 10,000 pike to be eliminated. Just thought you would like to know!!!!!

Buc, I am pretty sure he knows WDFW's intentions. Luckily we all don't have too agree with everything WDFW does. And this is not something new starting this month. This will be the 3rd year the gill netting is happening. This is just the first year they have been honest with anglers and instead of calling it a "study" it is now "population control" or "eradication". I don't know which side of the debate you are on but if you would like look in the pike forum on this website to see the conversation dating back 3 years on this subject. Turns out there is a lot of money involved for the Kalispel tribe. Myself and many others on this site would also like to encourage the release of all large pike so we can continue to enjoy this great fishery in the future.

Thats why were encouraging people to put the fish back. We dont agree with them on this. I think the numbers need to be decreased we just dont agree on the methods...
