Second time in as many weeks, got off work early and headed to the Skook. It was rainy today and the water was running at about 365 cfs, maybe a lil more. Fished below the corner hole and there were quite a few nice fish still rolling, which surprised me. Started drifting a nice little drop off and hooked up on the fourth cast, fought for about 30 seconds and popped off. Oh well. 3 casts later I hook up again and same result. Dang. I check my rig, start throwing again, and 4 casts later I'm on and I made sure to bury that hook. Finally landed the first fish and it was about a 6 pound hen.

Already having a great time, I decided to pull out the noodle rod for fun. 10'6', slow action, 4-6lb test rated....why not? Got rigged up and made about 7 attempts at casting but its really quite difficult going to such a light rod and not hooking trees and all. After making myself look like quite a noob, I proceeded to hook into a bigger fish than the first one and I never even had a chance at landing him. I really was putting about as much as the rod could handle on the fish and he made about 3 runs and on the fourth my rod went slack. He popped the 6 lb test. Shoot. Over the next couple of hours I hooked into 4 more fish and landed two of them. I have a pic on my phone of a Native buck that I caught and gently released, so I will try and post that.

On a side note, has anyone ever gotten really annoyed with someone who fishes next to you and doesn't do anything but set the hook about every 30 seconds? This guy moved down next to me and started doing this and it really ticked me off. I watch him snag two fish and he has the guts to tell me about how big they were and how he hooked them in the mouth. I called him a liar and had a few other words with him, but decided to just drop it because I wasn't goin to be able to change his ways.

Seems like an awesome time! There are lots of snaggers on the corner hole though!

i love how people assume that people that use corkie and or yarn are snaggers. if i feel a fish smash my corkie and my hooks in its tongue... is that snagging??? i dont think so.

David619 - Apparently you have never fished with me because I actually tell the difference between my lead bumping a rock and a fish shaking the end of my line. I know when there is a bite and you probably have no clue what the difference is. If you woul like I could teach you how to tell the difference and then while we are face to face you can call me a retard if you like. The result will be quite different, rather than online where we aren't face to face.

Everyone else - have a great time at the river and tight lines.

Crazyguy20 - I completely agree with you on what you are saying. There is quite a difference and anyone who has fish long enough and caught enough can tell. This guy was outright snagging. Literally yanking 2-3 times a drift. That is the difference between someone who knows how to drift corkies & yarn and some one who doesn't.

The snaggers I was mentioning are the guys that fish with a 10ft leader a little lead weight and a large hook with nothin on it.. And they keep any fish they snag. Theyre regulars Ive seen them there many times.

Really!? Thats how they fish on that corner hole? Wow, its amazing how they get away with that crap.. I use a 2' - 3' leader max with 2 tiny pink corkies and some shrimp scent rubbed into the bright pink yarn. Classic go to combo for steelhead. Those kinda people that fish like that just make me angry. Schu7498 its ok to call people out on it. I've realized that when you call the issue out in public even other people around them will start hassling them to change their ways. I think the only people who can solve it are the people out there and see the issues.

Fish_Freak....ohhhh noooo! That NEVER happens! LOL Only about every time I go out I seem to be a magnet for those guys that like to crowd! That's partly why tomorrow is my LAST DAY of fishing, I am not renewing my fishing license for next year. I've decided to take up other interests since the costs of fishing keep going UP and the quality of fishing keeps going DOWN in this state. Sad but true. But anyways...thanks for the update on the river, good to see that there's still some fish left in there. Planning to go there tomorrow afternoon, maybe I'll see you there. Look for a guy in a blue Sage hat and come on over and introduce yourself!

As for crazyguy: sorry that someone banned you, but please remember that there are young kids that read these reports too, so please watch your language! Thanks.
