Met up with another WaLaker and headed south to the Cowlitz hoping for late B-run Steel or Early Springers. Started at Blue Creek around 7am and fished our way down to the old creek and back, threw everything we had at em. I caught one small steelhead (about 18") drifting eggs, released. Only saw one other fish, it was in a garbage bag being carried off a boat, so not sure if it was steel or springer. Talked to a drift boat on it's way by, said that another drift boat went down at the Barrier launch. Saw some debris floating down river so only can assume it was true, but how do you dump a boat at Barrier?? Lots of boat running up & down the river, but didn't see any other fish.
About 2pm we decided to run of to Barrier and target Springers. Fished there until about 5pm, probably 50-70 people on the bank from the dam to the launch. Saw one fish caught and a few jump. Again we tried the gamut of presentations. I did get one bobber down floating eggs, but it ended up being a big ol sucker. Water was kind of high (13'+or-). From there we decided to see what was going on at Riffe Lake (see report).
