We spent the day in Seattle so come evening we decided to go fishing on the Skykomish. We wanted to fish where the Sultan comes into the Sky, but decided to go up to reiter for the first time to check out the fishing scene. Got to the hatchery at 5:30 and there was only about 12 cars. So we walked down with no intention of fishing reiter, to check to see if anyone was catching. Not too many guys fishing which completely suprised us. We were only down there a minute when a guy hooked into one, it was a bright steelie. So we got excited and decided to try reiter for the first time. The river was clear and beautiful! I was fishing with a peice of raw shrimp while my guy was trying out different colored corkies. He had one hit. I missed a good take because I wasnt paying attention to my line and found my line zooming upriver and backdown, by the time i got the slack up to set the hook the fish was gone. As the sun was disapearing so were the fishermen, and pretty quickly we were the only ones fishing the hatchery side. An eagle landed about 20ft from me, which was pretty cool. With the fishrmen gone it only took a short time for the fish to become active and they were rolling really close to shore. Soon after I hooked into a brute, I had my drag set pretty light cause I havent hooked a good fish in months and I wanted to play the fish and enjoy the fight. It was good to feel those strong headshakes again. The fish was taking out line when all of the sudden my line breaks. I couldnt believe it! Broke off right below my knot. Some weak glitch in the fluorocarbon I never saw. It was heart breaking. It was getting to be dusk so we left after that. Awesome day never the less!
