My 4th of July week was filling in so I decided to hit the Sky this morning while the crowds were light. Arrived at the river around 5 AM after driving through some of the hardest rain I had seen for awhile. One car in the parking lot with the fisherman still in it. Cool, other than it looked like it was going to be a rainy outing. Got down to the river and started float fishing in a hard rain shower. First cast I snag bottom and lose one of my favorite jigs. Darn, I hate when that happens!!! Tie back on and fish for an hour with no action. Rain was letting up intermittently so that was nice but a gusty wind was starting up. Oh well, switch to drift fishing for awhile. I was tipping a corky/yarn combo with some cured prawns that I had tried a new recipe on. Still no action after 30 minutes so I was started to question my new recipe. As soon as the doubt started to enter my mind I get bit and fish on!!! I love the new recipe now and after a nice little fight I tail this chrome hen. Wow, is this going to be a limit day?? NO! Tried a little bit of everything for about two more hours but no more love. Did see a couple roll which whetted my appetite but couldn't seal the deal on them. Only saw one other fish carried out on my side of the river. It was a hefty 12 lb'er which dwarfed my cookie cutter. Guy caught it driftfishing about the same time I caught mine only further down river. Sorry for the poor quality pic but I only use my cellphone camera now that I have developed a bad habit of sitting/falling into the river on about every other trip. Either the river bottom has gotten sketchier or I have gotten dumber or clumsier. Anyway, tight lines to all and have a safe 4th!!
