Decided we would try to pull a sockeye out the Skagit one last time before it's closed. Got to the Edgewater Park Launch at 6am with only a few other boats around. (The longer we were there the more boats showed up) We found a good spot and got all set up. I started with an orange and black spin-n-glo with white wings and a sandshrimp, dad started with a pink dick nite with a micro squid added. Sat there all morning with nothing. Tried some different stuff with nothing when finally at 10am the boat below us got a bump.
Then my rod went off. Dang! Missed it, put it back in and another hit! Missed it again. Put a new sand shrimp tail on as quick as I could and put it back in, this time the rod loaded and just stayed there... weird?? So I lifted up and it was heavy. I figured it was just a stick since there was a lot of junk coming down the river. I got it up to the surface, and I felt my stick kick and start to swim! I tried to set the hook, but it turned, and the hook popped out. The boat above us got a bump also, but nobody actually hooked any. Seems it was a tiny little wave of fish. Sat on the hook till noon with nothing else so we decided to go looking. Went up river and tried a bunch of different spots. Still nothing so we went back down to the spot we started at. Dad got two more bumps around 5pm, but no hook up. At 6pm we decided to head home since we hadn't seen any action anywhere on the river, and the next high tide wasn't till 10pm
Still a lovely day on the river, and I always love running my boat in the river. Came home with a good sunburn (Even with sunscreen) and a bunch of mosquito bites lol. All the bites came on the tiger spin-n-glos with sand shrimp tails.
