Well, I've got good news and bad news. We have been finding fish in the Sky, but it's been tought to find willing takers. The Chinook run is cooling off, and the steelhead are spread out. With the river dropping drastically to its summertime lows, water clarity is crystal clear and we've had to drop our tackle down to the bare minimum to convince the fish to bite.

Running six or eight pound leaders and tiny beads, yarn and flies has been the ticket to getting fish to bite. Peach trout beads, size 8 woolly buggers and bits of purple and orange yarn have worked, but with the water so clear you'll spend a lot of time watching fish swim away from your weight and float.

At times you'll find willing fish for a half hour or so and then the bite will turn off completely for the rest of the day. We've been focusing on the upper river for bigger numbers of fish, drawback is that the higher you go, the harder it is to fool the fish because of the water clarity. Move slow and steady along the bank so you don't spook fish, and cover a lot of water until you find them. Reiter on both sides as well as the cable hole will be your best bet, both sides of the river have been productive.

With the Sky winding down for a spell, I'm going to move my focus to the southern rivers for a few weeks. If you're interested in fishing the Nooch, Skok or Cowlitz we've been catching and learning a lot down there.
