9/14/2012 12:15:00 PMPS - Enough with the flossing comments already. Salmon in rivers seldom eat, they are simply defending their territory and trying to "spoil" the spawn of competing fish. When they strike it isn't always with an open mouth, they ram, nudge and swipe at each other especially in tight quarters like the Samish.

9/14/2012 2:56:00 PMIn the Samish theres no current, we short float 2 feet under float, WAY off bottom with ZERO weight. Explain to me how we can floss a fish with a clump of eggs and no weight short floated in a river with no current? if you read the report we had 3-4 outside the mouth and 4 inside. As G--man mentioned, these fish are aggressive, not feeding, theres PLENTY of reasons why we hooked those fish on the outside lip. anything from a early hookset, where the fish didnt have eggs fully in mouth, late hookset where he was in the process of spitting the hook, too big of clump of eggs so he had only a piece of it in his mouth and hook was on outside... theres plenty of reasons, we also can see the fish in a few holes, the big one we released, we watched come up 3 feet from the depth to eat the eggs, and he was hooked outside the mouth. Theres more reason R.ton, i would post a bunch of throat shot samish king pics for ya, but your really not worth my time and the legit guys know why the float and egg fishing results in outside hookups, so stop your B**ching

I'm guessing if someone were actively flossing with corky and/or yarn and/or bead or whatever in those conditions that they'd be bringing in a ton more fish than they seemed to do in the report. I'm glad FF mentioned they were hooked how they were, it helps others understand the conditions and fishing.
All that said I know there are some awesome technique bobber guys (thinking jens or the like) that get pretty much all their fish to actively bite with that method and spend a ton of time on the water to find sections that aren't heavily fished by drift gear guys or where water is more conducive to bobber/eggs than drift gear. It can be a science with all the scent sensitivity of fish, curing processes and all. So I have a ton of respect for those guys and would let them actively fish a drift I might be trying to drift fish or floss a fish in but at the same time these two guys looked like they did things the right way letting go the fish that were not hooked in the mouth plus had a good day on the river. Well done IMO!
It is looking like there will be a lot of river coho potentially for them to get people on to later in the year for someone that may not be getting the fish they want. I suspect guys like jens and R. ton are not going to need guides for that but there will be a good amount of people that will be happy to have a guide give up their time and experience to get someone paying to get after a few fish. And it is looking like the N Puget Sound rivers are going to have some strong coho returns this year. Hopefully that makes for good first year guide seasons with nate and fishinfreak and I wish them well.
Hope that all makes sense. I'm having to type with interruption LOL so not gonna proofread and it is just my one personal opinion. Good luck to everyone on the water! It is good to see people getting out there even when they are not successful. And R. ton, you certainly are a wealth of knowledge as well on some of the threads so hope to continue to see you around.
Nice looking fish nate! FF- that thing almost looks like it has been to the taxidermist LOL. Good size to it though. Good luck when school starts back up FF. Ah the few nice warm fall days wandering around Red Square looking at the ladies... Too old for that now. NOT too old to fish though :-) OK back ot other stuff.

9/14/2012 5:04:00 PMR.ton... No, wtf r u talking about. When i short float a straight jig under a bobber sometimes steelhead are hooked under the mouth or outside. I didnt floss them, it was because of the way they strike it. Open your eyes dude and stop with all the flossing BS nobody wants to hear you
