I wrote a massive report just now and then erased it because no one would believe it anyways. So I will leave it short and simple.

I caught some fish today. I lost some fish today. I fell in the river, might have ruined my cell phone and I am sitting at work pretty wet still annoyed by everyone that asks why I am soaked.

I lost 3 blue fox spinners, 4 jigs and probably every ounce of patience I have with myself. I learned 3 lessons.

1. Change your line out after steelhead season. Because a Coho in the mid teens is going to lay waste to 8lb line, you might think you can work a big fish in, and you might get lucky, but you don't deserve to.

2. Bring a net, because although you have been banking fish just fine those big fish don't play nice or fair, the rocks are slick and you deserve to take a swim if you don't bring the right gear.

3. Don't keep your cellphone in your pocket. Yea everyone loves photos of fish, I might be the most guilty, but if you have broken the two rules above your just going to be more angry.

And finally This might have been my best day of fishing yet this year. I have yet to hook up with more fish, and oddly enough big silvers in the green. I will be back tomorrow with 12lb line a net and from now on I am keeping a towel in my car. PS I can't wait to read other reports because I am sure this was happening all over the river today.

LOL that is funny stuff and was almost exactly what I was worried about on the short trip yesterday- no net, fishing STEEP bank on slick rocks at second place. Luckily I hooked a little tadpole so only had to do a little balancing getting down to the fish. I have cheapo lightweight mono screaming to be ripped by a big 'nook or coho. Bringing a net next time (if I can find the cheap thing) but the cheap mono may not afford the option of trying to get a big fish in.

Umm, is there a specific reason people shouldn't believe you other than it is the internet so a grain of salt and skepticism is warranted? I suppose the odds are against you with the other reports today of it being real slow but that should make it all the better for you in spite of the frustrations getting owned by some fish ;-)

Just bring a camera (in tightly closed ziploc) next time as long as taking the photo doesn't jeopardize your fish or yourself! Can always take a pic at home if that's the case. Coho and most salmon school up sometimes into tight little packs of course so while it may have been crazy where you were, trust me it can be totally dead just a little ways away or during difft tide or daytime etc (unless it is pink season where a milion fish flood in vs what, 13,000-15,000 coho on a good year not sure?).

Anyway this is great reading that others will probably relate to, especially the coming into work wet (muddy, fishblood on clothes, etc) part. Wish you'd kept the long version...

take the battery out and put your phone in white rice for the night should dry it out. I like your short story but im sure the long one would have been better!

The long post was well over board. The first thing I did was crawl out of the drink, pull the battery, now the phone is sitting in some desicant like drizzair drying out. Fingers crossed. I took 1 fish home, had 3 fish to the bank, the first two were mistakes on my behalf. First I snapped a jig because it was old, then I snapped a swivel because it was stressed from fish #1, then I slipped off a rock literally not wanting to let number 3 go. I also hooked up with 2 others that were on for a few minutes before tossing hooks. To make it worse when I slipped off the rock I snapped the line and then whilst drying out on the bank I watched the same fish jump trying to shake the hook for about 2 -3 minutes fully out of the water just smashing around. It was a sight, and I won't lie I tried my hardest to re-catch it , but that was no luck. The last fish was easily a coho in the teens which is just not something I see on the green often which is part of my pain from today.

Oh well. I am spooled back up, got some new jigs tied up and I will hit it tomorrow.

Oh and it was apparently not a good day for everyone, and certainly not me, although it was packed full of action. I rated it a 5 simply because I would take a swim everytime I go fishing for that much action in a few hours. I did take a pic on a camera of the one that I brought home but I don't know how to add it to a report.

At least you caught fish and escaped uninjured. Two weeks ago I slipped on the rocks and completely tore my MCL. I have to wear this huge brace and I'm now limited to fishing soft banks. Where were you fishing?
