I was suppose to go to the Potholes this weekend for some Walleye, Bass, and Trout action, but it didn't happen. So we packed up and headed for the Cowlitz instead.
Saturday we fished Blue Creek with not much going on. Caught several trout, and a nice little hatchery brat that we let go looking for something bigger. Turned in early to get ready for Sunday as we decided to head down to Castle Rock and try to repeate our previous weekend. We launched around 6AM and ran up just below the Toutle and started drifting corkies and yarnies (As someone accidently forgot the eggs in the freezer) 3rd pass and it was finally FISH ON! The reel was screaming as the fish booked down river, turned and came back at us. Made at least 5 absolutely screaming runs before I got it back under full control, and into the net. Dime brite hatchery hen nook. We were estatic! Snapped some pics and into the fish box.
That turned out to be the only Adult we would hear of all morning. Heard of some jacks caught, and the guys on the bank at the mouth of the Toutle were catching them as usual. Boats were having a hard time finding fish. We ended up going quiet a ways down river, with one more fish hooked and lost, and saw one more fish on in the lower river. We decided there wasn't much going on down there, so ran back up to our starting point to loose one more fish before heading into the ramp. While packing up a guide pulled up with two adults for a full boat of 4 or 5 guys, one of them was a little dark.
There's definitely still fish in there though, and the silvers should be on their way. Can't wait! Next report will hopefully be of some coho in the Snoho!
