Enjoyed a great 3 days on the Coquille River. Launched at Bullards, motored downriver 100 yards or so, set out about 45' of line with a cut plug herring and in less than 15 minutes, had a beautiful 17lb chinook hen on the line then soon in the net. After about an hour, my daughter joined us and we started again in front of the boat launch. shortly after trolling under the bridge, she had on our second fish! I netted a 19lb hen. this was right at slack water so we fished another hour then called it a day. Day 2 wasn't as productive. After dropping a few crab pots, we started in the same spot, had a few hits during the morning, then around high slack, a nice take down and my daughter brought in a beautiful 22.5lb hen! that night, salmon bbq and crab for dinner. Day three took us to the light house for some serious crabbing. While waiting for the pots to be pulled, we trolled out in the ocean for a short time. No fish. We pulled our pots and in our first pull, had 17 keepers! We ended up with 4 limits of California sized crab. Had one fish on right in front of the light house but it got off at the boat. We sent my daughter and sister-in-law back home with the crab and Bob and I headed back to Bullards to fish the out going tide. The river was ours. No one was on it to witness Bob catching his 22lb buck. Great trip overall.
